What have you had on your list for the past 10 years that you really truly seriously are going to change THIS YEAR? Like you HONESTLY CROSS-YOUR-HEART-HOPE-TO-DIE were also going to change last year? And the year before?
Most of us know what needs to change – we don’t need help there. It’s bridging the knowing/doing gap that’s the challenge. We KNOW what needs to be done. DOING it is a different matter.
PEOPLE CHANGE WHEN SOMETHING IMPORTANT TO THEM IS THREATENED
I recently listened to a podcast with Dennis Prager and his son Aaron who has been sober for several years but struggled with addictions very badly. He made suicide attempts and went through rehab. He quit when he finally realized that he had no one else to blame for his problems. You can listen to his story of getting clean here:

So what will you regret in 10 years if left unchanged? Make a list.
CLASSIC DELUSIONS THAT KEEP YOU FROM MOVING AHEAD:
- I can do this alone. If you’ve been struggling for over a year, you probably need outside help.
- I don’t need structure to become the person I want to be. Really?
- I have the courage and motivation to monitor my own behaviour. I know I don’t (mostly)
Here’s my suggestion for you:
Find a friend who also wants to make positive change.
Tell them what you want to achieve.
Write down 1-3 questions you would like to answer each day.
Text back and forth with the answers to your questions:
Did I drink alcohol today?
Did I do pushups?
Did I meet with a prospect?
Did I do something nice for my spouse?
Did I read for 15 minutes?
Whatever you want to improve, write it down and hold each other accountable.
If you quit, it won’t be because it doesn’t work, but because it does. Change is hard!
Try something new and see different results. If not now, when? If not this way, what way?
Move ahead in 2024!
Getting ahead is about getting started!
