President Eisenhower famously said,
“I have two kinds of problems, the important and the urgent. The urgent are never important and the important are never urgent.”
I’m not sure I agree with the first part. When your pregnant wife informs you that her water just broke, getting to the hospital is both urgent and important. But fine, point taken.
The second is invariably true though. The truly important things in life are rarely urgent.
Exercising, taking time to build relationships, planning for the future, putting away money, spending time to improve yourself personally, spiritually, or professionally, are never really urgent.
No one cares or in many cases even knows if you’ve done them or not.
So here’s what success is:
A FEW SIMPLE DISCIPLINES PRACTICED EVERY DAY
Exercise every day and you’ll be happy in 20 years. Put away some money, eat well, spend time on your spiritual life, be nice to your spouse EVERY DAY and you’ll be a winner in that area.
Failure is:
A FEW ERRORS PRACTICED EVERY DAY
Be a jerk to your spouse one day, okay. We all have bad days. But keep practicing that error and over time you’ll have a lousy marriage. Over spend every day and you’ll be poor. And so on.
WHAT ARE THE SIMPLE DISCIPLINES YOU PRACTICE EVERY DAY?
Those are the things that will make you a success.
Not easy, but pretty simple.
