Or for that matter, would you like to do what anyone else does?

Would you like to be a top salesperson, or a great musician, a high-earning professional, a department leader, or a successful entrepreneur?

I am approached semi-often by people who think they would like to “do what I do.”

The question they should consider is,

WOULD YOU LIKE TO DO WHAT I’VE DONE?

In my case, that meant getting a degree, spending seven years as a pastor dealing with all manner of people issues, then working another seven years for a multi-national in a variety of roles that kept me on the road up to two weeks/month.

Then it meant leaving a perfectly good, well-paying job to go on my own and put up my house as collateral against business debt, and spending the next months cold calling, doing anything I could to find a client. It meant taking no holidays for a number of years.

It also meant standing in front of people, feeling like an imposter for quite a long time (years?) and going to the U.S. to gain certifications and grow in my craft. It meant reading literally hundreds of books on any related topic I could find.

Now do you want to do what I do?

Whatever it is you aspire to do, look at what those who have made it work have done in order to get there.

I think you’ll find that there’s more to it than meets the eye.

Are you willing to do what they’ve done?

Anything worth having is uphill from wherever you are.

Once you’ve counted the cost, make your roadmap and get started.

And don’t lose heart. Everyone. Everyone. Begins as an amateur.

Getting ahead really is about getting started!
