I recently had a chance to listen to and speak with Marshall Goldsmith, the top executive coach in the world – someone that the Times of London and Forbes jointly named one of the 15 most influential business thinkers in the world. Marshall coaches people like the chairman of Ford, and the Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army.
You’d expect that someone with these credentials would have a very heady, intellectual assessment of life and business. But his message was so simple, and I thought could be summed up in this one (paraphrased) idea:
Beware of the Western cultural disease of “I will be happy when – when I get this or that or achieve this or that. Learn to live in the moment and enjoy every day for what it is…a gift.”
None of us know how long we will live. Our time on earth is short. Make sure you’re enjoying the journey.
