I was recently with a client in Toronto and we heard a speaker talking about the power of story in connecting to customers.
Story is also the most important way to communicate core values to employees. One of my clients is a corporate farm. They tell and re-tell the back-in-the-day story of a time that the whole team once worked 24 hours straight so that they could get a crop seeded before it rained.
They don’t have to tell their new employees that two of their core values are hard work and finding solutions. One telling of the company legend communicates those values far better than a poster or a section of an employee handbook.
What are your company legends and when do you tell them so that everyone gets ‘how things are done around here?’
