Sometimes you may feel guilty taking holidays. I think that holidays are critical for three reasons:
- You’re obviously better and sharper when you have time to ‘trickle charge’ by relaxing for a few days without interruption. You can’t ‘jump start’ your mind by taking a few hours away from work.
- I’ve always found that the best people have a life outside of work. Family, friends and hobbies sharpen your mind and broaden your outlook. If you don’t have a life, let me suggest that you looking into getting one!
- This one may surprise you. I’m very suspicious of managers who can’t take time away in case the wheels fall off the organization. To me, it shows that they are weak in building a team around them and need to grow in their delegation, coaching and mentoring skills. I once heard a wise owner insist that all of his key managers take two consecutive weeks away from the business for this reason.
So enjoy your Christmas holiday without guilt.
