Here’s a great training tip from the Great Game of Business. Help others understand your business (or department) by using a ‘mystery number.’
One business owner posted “222,232” on his office door. He made no comment on it, and waited for people to digest it, and to ask. Finally, in a staff meeting, he revealed that the number represented fuel delivery costs for their company for one year.
Lots of staff had an ‘aha’ moment and thought a little more deeply about how to use delivery more effectively in the future.
Another friend posted the number that it takes to keep the doors open every month – to the shock of his employees. Another posted direct mail costs for one marketing campaign.
You can’t expect anyone to care about a secret – make some relevant numbers public and see what happens.
