I’ve always used 3 questions to help think through staff evaluations. Briefly, they are:
- Would you enthusiastically rehire?
- Do they take away your stress (in their area)?
- How would you feel if they were to quit?
If they’re stars, you’ll answer ‘yes’ to questions 1 and 2, and something like ‘devastated’ to question 3.
Recently a client added a question that I thought was brilliant. The question she asks when evaluating people is:
“What would your team look like if everyone on the team shared that person’s attitude?”
Kind of cuts through the clutter.
