ENTJ: The Commander | Personality Description

entj the commander

Personality tests are an effective method for learning more about yourself and others. While many tests are available online, one of the most popular personality tests is Myer’s Briggs. The Myer’s Briggs test states there are 16 different personality types in society –each with its own identifiable acronym. In this article, we will be going over the ENTJ personality, also known as the commander.

Overview of the ENTJ Personality Type

ENTJ is the acronym used to describe this personality. It stands for extraverted, i(N)ntuitive, thinking, and judging –or ENTJ. These individuals are described as strategic leaders who are charismatic, logical, and motivated to achieve their goals. The ENTJ personality is assertive and efficient when developing solutions to problems around them.

However, they can be closed off when displaying their emotions, appearing cold and disinterested in some settings. Furthermore, this personality type is the rarest in society, with only 2% of the global population identifying as such! Additionally, you can always count on ENTJs to motivate you to succeed as they thrive on being in a group atmosphere.

Strengths

Like all personalities, ENTJ’s hold many strengths they use to their advantage often. Let’s take a look at some of these strengths below.

Ambitious: The ENTJ personality enjoys taking charge of their day to help them achieve their goals. They use their ability to remain organized to increase their efficiency and productivity, making them naturally successful in whatever they put their mind to.

Optimistic: You can always count on an ENTJ’s positivity to lighten the mood in stressful situations. As they thrive in group settings and are natural leaders, you can always depend on this personality type to encourage you to be your best, even if you have trouble believing in yourself.

Adaptable: Regardless of the situation at hand, ENTJ’s are naturally flexible. When plans change last minute or when an issue arises, these individuals will take charge and use their logic to formulate effective solutions.

Innovative: ENTJ’s naturally think outside of the box. They can push the boundaries of what is possible and expected of them. Rather than settle for average, they’ll go out of their way to discover a new solution to a problem.

Energetic: Rather than back down from a challenge, ENTJs remain lively and motivated in stressful situations. They stay focused on the end goal and use logical thinking and an optimistic attitude to get the job done correctly.

Confident: As this personality type is a natural-born leader, ENTJs are confident in themselves and achieving success. This is why you’ll notice that many of these individuals grow up to work in positions of power.

Weaknesses

Now that we know some of the strengths of ENTJ’s let’s take a closer look at some of their weaknesses.

Blunt: Due to their logical mindset, ENTJ’s can naturally find flaws in the thoughts and actions of others. Rather than point things out to others in a non-conflicting manner, ENTJ’s tell it like it is –making them blunt with a lack of regard for other people’s emotions.

Arrogant: As ENTJ’s naturally excel in their environment, their ability to be efficient and productive in their thinking and decision making can catch up to them from time to time. This, coupled with their confidence, can sometimes be perceived as arrogance.

Insensitive: Because the ENTJ personality is reserved in expressing emotion, it can appear as if they cannot empathize with other people. They are also known to be cold and closed off.

Healthy ENTJ vs. Unhealthy ENTJ

While some with the ENTJ personality live a well-rounded, healthy lifestyle, others have difficulties managing their strengths and weaknesses. Let’s take a look at the differences between a healthy ENTJ vs. an unhealthy ENTJ.

Healthy

  • Comfortable with ambiguity
  • Do not need to have control over every situation
  • Enjoy constructive feedback
  • Can balance their logical mindset with understanding the feelings of others

Unhealthy

  • When they experience vulnerability, they counteract being insecure by becoming overly critical and aggressive towards other people.
  • Will deliberately use their logic and status to be condescending towards others.
  • Use manipulation to get what they want
  • Have little awareness of the feelings of others
  • They cannot recognize that they may be wrong or out of line in certain situations.

ENTJ-A vs. ENTJ-T

Now, let’s compare the ENTJ-A vs. the ENTJ-T. An ENTJ-A is also known as the Assertive Commander, while the ENTJ-T is the Turbulent Commander.

While the assertive personality type manages stress with confidence, the turbulent personality finds difficulties in stressful environments and managing their stress. Furthermore, assertive ENTJs are less likely to connect with inner emotions and negative thoughts, making them more confident in themselves. Contrastingly, the turbulent personality is more insecure and sensitive with themselves and others.

ENTJ’s in Relationships

Moreover, when it comes to relationships, the ENTJ values communication and logic. They feel comfortable sharing their perspectives with their partner and are not afraid to address any conflict head-on, rather than leaving it to pester. However, they do have a hard time opening up and expressing their emotions with others. Additionally, they can also have difficulties removing themselves from work to spend time with their partner.

The PLI program was invaluable to our network.
The range of topics delivered, the open dialogue, experience, and examples that PLI brought to each session were outstanding and provided a path for our Franchisees and Managers to look at leadership, coaching, and connecting with their teams in a new light. Many have implemented these strategies in their bakeries and have seen immediate results.

Highly recommend to help your team move forward
We have locations around BC and Alberta, so getting people on the same page can be very difficult... Until now. Our entire management team and location managers take the same great courses and then meet monthly online with our coach to apply it to our situation. People are engaged, the courses are excellent, we love our coach, and we are all learning together!
